Copper Eye Agates #2

Copper Eye Agates: Images of the Amazing, Beautiful, Complex and Diverse
Book by Jack Hobart

Copper Eye Agates, Images of the Amazing, Beautiful, Complex & Diverse is a companion to the introductory book about copper agates, Lake Superior Copper Agates. These agates have only been actively collected for little more than ten years. Nearly all come from portions of three 100-year old copper mine tailings in the Keweenaw of Northern Michigan. There is so much associated mineralization, that more eyes are found in them than in any other agates. Giant eyes, tiny eyes, copper eyes - even etched in solid copper, copper banded eyes - even eyes with geodes in their pupils. One full page photo shows an agate pair, each smaller than Lincoln's face on the penny with a copper eye smaller than one of its numbers. Nearly every eye is more colorful and complex than most any traditional eye in a glacial Lake Superior agate. Picture sizes are maximized to reveal the detail within the eyes. Some are shown using reflected light photography to emphasize the brilliant reflections from their copper patterns.Since there are significant difference in agates from the three nearby mines, each image lists its origin as well as its dimensions. This photo-filled book includes enough text to explain the features, but the words don't get in the way of the photography. The goal is to make it a fun experience.
