Lap Machine Questions

Can I re-use my water for diamond grinding?

You can, but we really don't recommend it. When you re-use your water, you risk the chance of contamination getting back on to your diamond discs, thus increasing the chances of getting unwanted scratches onto your stones. For best results, use clean water every time you work. Some of our customers have even used water filters to make sure they are using the cleanest water while they work.

What is the difference between the Slant Cabber and All-U-Need lap machine?

The Slant Cabber and All-U-Need both perform the same tasks. Both machines grind and polish a wide variety of material. The only difference is their design. The Slant Cabber has a unique angled design that allows for easy viewing while you work. You can even sit down while you work because the angled design allows the user to easily see the material they are working on. The All-U-Need has a horizontal design. This design allows you to have a over-head view of the material you are working on. For visual differences, check out the "Lap Machines" page.

What is the difference between the Diamond Smoothing Discs and the Top Plates/Type 1 Diamond Discs?

Yet both serve the same purpose, they are different. Our Diamond Smoothing Discs are made by using a high concentration of diamond and loading it onto these discs to provide an extremely aggressive rate, yet leaving an exceptionally smooth surface finish. Our Top Plates/Type 1 Diamond Discs are made with top grade diamond powder that is nickel electroplated uniformly onto a 1mm thick steel plate, resulting in the highest quality and longer life than the Diamond Smoothing Discs.

Please remember to use water with your discs. They should NEVER be run dry.

Are your lap machines compatible with grinding glass?

Both of our lap machines, the Slant Cabber and All-U-Need, are compatible with grinding glass. In fact, we sell to glass studios and glass companies quite frequently.

How do you flush the white catch tray when you are cleaning the All-U-Need? How frequently should I do this?

Every time you are done using your All-U-Need lap machine, you should flush the white catch tray. Sediment from the rocks you are working with will end up in the white catch tray. Cleaning this catch tray out will prevent sediment from getting hard and possibly clogging your drain tube.

You can flush your white catch tray by taking a small bucket of water and pouring the water into the catch tray so the sediment left over from your rocks will get flushed down the drain tube. Once you see all the sediment gone and the white catch tray is clean, you are all set for the next time you work on your All-U-Need.

If you need to remove the white catch tray for further cleaning, you can do so by removing the silver flange with your hexagonal wrench that comes with your machine.

How do you flush the water reservoir when you are cleaning the Slant Cabber? How frequently should I do this?

Just like the All-U-Need lap machine, you should flush your Slant Cabber's water reservoir every time you use it. Sediment from the rocks you are working with will end up in the drain tube. Cleaning your water reservoir will prevent the sediment from getting hard and possibly clogging your drain tube.

Please note that with the Slant Cabber, there are two water reservoirs, the top and the bottom. Since the rock sediment will end up in the bottom reservoir, you need to flush this out. You can do this by taking a small bucket of water and pouring it into the bottom reservoir so all the sediment will get flushed down the drain tube. Once you see all the sediment gone, you are all set for the next time you work on your Slant Cabber.

What should I do if my All-U-Need or Slant Cabber drain tube keeps clogging with sediment?

You can flush out the sediment with lots of water. If there is a large piece of sediment that isn't budging, try using an air spray gun to push it out.

Some "Helpful Hints" regarding the Slant Cabber and All-U-Need:
  • Always wear eye protection
  • Always make sure your machine sits on a level table
  • Always make sure no water is getting into the motor, as both machines are designed to prevent this from happening
