Pyrite/Calcite Rough

from Michigans upper peninsula.
A calcite based material, the Pyrite in Calcite cuts very easily with diamond or silicon carbide tools.
Polishing Instructions
Rough shape and dome with 220 fine wheel with light pressure.
Sand with 280, 600, 1200 3000, and 8000 with light to medium pressure. Note: The 8000 wheel is optional, however, it does improve the polish on the Calcite.
Final polish - use Raybrite, Alumina powder or Tin Oxide works.
As a general rule, you will experirnce slight undercutting due to varying hardness between the Pyrite and Calcite. There will also be a variance in the polish for the same reason. The final cab should display a mirror golden polish on the Pyrite and a good, glossy polish on the Calcite.
